Climate programs of Utrecht

As the catalyst for sustainability One Planet Foundation was invited by the Province of Utrecht to assist with the forming and establishment of the ‘Op Kop’ climate programs of Utrecht. One Planet is now one of the Climate Ambassadors for the Province Utrecht and assists the climate group with recruiting new businesses and the organisation of programs. The climate group consists of the Lawkeeper of the Environment, a few officials and program leaders from Environment and Climate, representatives of businesses like Essent, InterfaceFlor, DHV and the Rabobank.
The climate group is occupied with advanced projects amongst which is the “Op Kop” programs. These programs challenge organisations to become climate neutral. Participants become members of an exclusive network of organisations that share this ambition. These organisations are called Koplopers. For more info click here.
Every few months events, project information and seminars are organised. Diverse subjects such as subsidies for sustainability, sustainable purchasing, sustainable nourishment, reduction of Footprint, etc. are dealt with. The number of participants has increased considerably in these network events, businesses establish useful contacts with one another and the halls and workshops are frequently full. Furthermore, €20 million will be made available in subsidies in the provincial program Meer Met Minder. More information about this program is available at www.provincie-utrecht.nl/klimaat (dutch). For an account of the provincial program (dutch), click here.
Paul Heistein is climate ambassador of this program: “The only way that an individual could influence the climate change is by altering his/her own habits and then with the co-operation of the neighbourhood reducing their collective Co2 emission.”
