Eiffel Financial Challenge

In 2006 and 2007 Eiffel together with Nyenrode University sponsored the Eiffel Financial Challenge, a competition for young financial professionals. The one who could make out the best business case for a specific subject, and present and defend it to a jury stood to win a very good prize, amongst which was a Controller’s training at the Nyenrode University.

In 2007 Eiffel and Nyenrode chose the One Planet sustainable housing EcoVilla as the theme for the Challenge. The participants had to compare the expenses of a typical Dutch family (the fictitious ‘family De Vries’) living a sustainable life-style in an EcoVilla, with that of the same family living an ordinary life-style in a Vinex district. In short, the candidates had to compare the costs of sustainable living with the costs of an ordinary ‘fossil dependent’ life. Should the De Vries family move to an EcoVilla or not?

Jury

One Planet, Eiffel and Nyenrode co-operated for the Challenge 2007. It was organised strictly and professionally by Eiffel and published widely via numerous channels. Eight candidates were selected from the Business Case entrants for the finals. Before a skilled jury they each delivered a passionate plea for why/or why not they were going to live in a One Planet EcoVilla. The winner of 2007 was Carla Vermeulen Fransen from Terburg. Hans Cloosterman, director of Knowledge Management at Eiffel, said on behalf of the jury: “Carla had sensible advice and had thoroughly thought out all the aspects a family would have to consider when hiring or buying an EcoVilla. It was an enjoyable, well-planned talk and the presentation was equally good. We appreciate that!” For more information about the Challenge 2007

The Challenge was an enjoyable, amusing and lively way to attract attention to the economic aspects of sustainable living, because it should also become affordable for the average family. This collaboration with Eiffel and Nyenrode ties in very well with our mission of furthering sustainable living.
