Treasure Trail to Sustainability
On 10 May 2009 One Planet Foundation, together with ANY-time and DHV, arranged an enjoyable ‘treasure trail to sustainability’ for 224 schoolchildren in Amersfoort. It took place on the Parade in a big tent in the Brouwer Public Gardens behind the Town Hall of Amersfoort.
For every instruction of sustainability carried out the children received a stamp in their passports. At the end of the treasure trail the stamps were checked at the green passport control after which the children received tasty refreshments. Through every instruction they learnt something about sustainability.
- Calculate your own Footprint.
- Learn the difference between ordinary and ‘green’ products in the supermarket.
- Cycle on the energy generating bicycle and see how much sustainable energy you can generate.
- What is the difference in CO2 emission when you visit your gran by car, train or bicycle?
- Video-Skype with children in New York and share with one another what you do to limit your CO2 emissions and Footprint.
- Tell the Minister of Milieu what you are going to do to reduce your CO2 emissions and to improve the environment.
The green treasure trail lasted approximately an hour. Minister of Milieu, Gerda Eerdmans, also participated in the treasure trail and for a time played the role of Minister of Milieu. There was great interest in the treasure trail, also from parents and teachers. The afternoon was a success and the children as well as the One Planet team had great fun. One Planet was asked to consider if the Green Treasure Trail for children could become a permanent part of the Parade.
