Away from the World

Away from the World

Sometimes One Planet does fun things like

  • A trip with our staff to CAT in Wales http://www.cat.org.uk/index.html
  • Eden Project in Cornwall http://www.edenproject.com/#x7UzRDviyGMHb2R5.97
  • A Soup-&-Film evening about “Omnivores Dilemma” with a lively discussion afterwards.
  • A live simulcast of the TEDx Talks at Utrecht University, in our Savannah Room at One Planet, so local citizens can watch in Amersfoort.
  • A lecture from Marica van der Meer who cycled 28,000 km from Amsterdam to Tasmania. How much CO2 does that save compared to flying? (more details below)

Sustainability provides endless things to do!

Dear friends, One Planet invites you to an adventurous story about a woman on a world tour –  Wednesday 21 June, 2018 from 7 to 9 p.m. on Stationsplein 16, Amersfoort

Marica van der Meer takes you on a bike ride from the Netherlands to Australia, a journey of 28,000 km in 15 months. Her story is about drinking tea in Turkey and travel through a very hospitable Iran, with which she denies all prejudices about these countries. For three months she cycles through China all on her own. In Myanmar she is chased by the secret service on mopeds, but in the rest of Asia she is left alone. In Australia, drivers are not happy with cyclists on public roads and treat them like tramps.

During a two-hour lecture Marica van der Meer shows beautiful photos and tells us about the most impressive events during her fascinating journey. Marica wrote several books: From Fire to Ice, Around Africa and her latest book Away from the World, about her cycling trip from the Netherlands to Australia, published in February 2016.

You can find us 50 meters in front of the entrance of NS-Amersfoort in Stationsplein 16, 3818 LE Amersfoort. PS: there is unfortunately no lift for wheelchairs.

One Planet Foundation runs projects that promote sustainability by minimising the use of fossil fuels and reducing CO2 emissions. Cycling from the Netherlands to Australia, because you want to attend the birthday of your girlfriend in Sydney – like Marica did – is an adventurous way to save a lot of CO2! We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 21 June at 7 pm for a fascinating lecture and questions afterwards!
